Singing Can Be Your Therapy

Firstly, my heart goes out to so many of our students who lost homes from the catastrophic fires. I’ve reached out to the ones I know about and assured you that we are all here to support you. Our singing community has been a place of comfort and support and we continue to stand behind you!

Whether in an actual lesson, or simply in your own private space, self expression comes from your voice. Although we take lessons to either learn to sing or enhance and strengthen our singing, we often just need a place to express what’s going on in life. This can be done anywhere. Music is such a powerful healing source and it is the universal language.

I encourage each of you to continue to open your mouths and just let it out. I find that sometimes, I don’t want to put forth the effort to sing but somehow find just enough energy to start. Once you start, the vibrations and expressions of everything that is going on in your life come flowing out and it is often the best dose of therapy you could ask for. There are so many times when someone comes in for a lesson and the second they open their mouth, the tears start flowing. Sometimes not even knowing why they are feeling that way or where it came from. It’s necessary and oh so healing. Doesn’t have to be pretty, professional or perfect. It’s simply you creating the space to try.
